MASTER IN APPLIED GENETICS AND BIOTECHNOLOGIES
RESPONSIBLE MASTER: Prof. Dr. Ileana STOICA
MISSION:
Internationally, but also in Romania, the last 10 years have been marked by the explosive development of genetics research and genetic applications in many sectors of economic and social life. Romania’s integration into the European structures implied the alignment of Romanian academic training and scientific research programs to the European scientific community network. The organization of the Master in Applied Genetics and Biotechnologies responds first of all to the numerous requests coming from employers, but also from graduates of the Faculties of Biology, Biotechnology, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Agronomy, Chemistry, etc., at a time when there is an acute shortage of specialists in such vast and widely applicable fields of genetics and biotechnology. At present, this Master’s program is unique at national level, both in terms of the issues addressed and the way it is organized and run. As a result, the curriculum has been structured to provide students with the opportunity to deepen their theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of genetics and, at the same time, to familiarize them with modern molecular biology techniques, with a balanced distribution of lecture and practical hours.
SCOP:
Highly specialized theoretical and practical training in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, microbiology
OBJECTIVE:
Through the curriculum, the Master’s Program in Applied Genetics and Biotechnology has the following operational objectives, which are harmonized with the educational and scientific research mission:
- to deepen fundamental knowledge in cutting-edge areassuch as: current issues in human genetics (applied in assisted reproduction, diagnosis and treatment, genetic counseling, forensic genetics), molecular genetics and plant and animal biotechnology, modern aspects in molecular genetics and micro-organism-based biotechnology, bioinformatics applied in scientific research, bioethical aspects in applied genetics and biotechnology
- skills training, both for research activity and especially for applied areas of these sciences
