The distinctiveness of this undergraduate program lies in its approach to environmental issues in accordance with systemic theory. According to this theory, the environment is not just the sum of environmental factors (water, air, soil, fauna, flora), but a hierarchy of ecological systems, including both natural and semi-natural systems as well as social and economic systems, organized at different scales of time and space. The proper study of these complex structures in terms of their organization and functioning requires an integrative, multi-, inter- and trans-disciplinary approach. This approach is reflected in the curriculum structure of this specialization.
