MASTER NEUROBIOLOGY

RESPONSIBLE MASTER: Prof. dr. Violeta RISTOIU

violeta.ristoiu@bio.unibuc.ro

MISSION:

The Master’s in Neurobiology is an interdisciplinary Master’s in RESEARCH in neuroscience.

SCOP:

The aim of the Master in Neurobiology program is to provide advanced training in neuroscience, developing the competences and skills necessary to carry out research activities in specialized laboratories. This program aims at deepening the knowledge of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the functioning of the nervous system, the processes involved in various neurological pathologies, as well as the methods of investigation and analysis used in neurobiological studies.

OBJECTIVE:
  • To provide the theoretical and practical foundations for a researcher in neuroscience
  • Prepare students for enrolment in a doctoral program
SKILLS:
  • Development of practical skills in the realization of cultures of neurons, glial cells or microcirculation associated with the peripheral or central nervous system
  • Acquiring theoretical and practical knowledge of how to use in the field of neurosciences electrophysiological recording techniques, calcium imaging or fluorescence microscopy, specific animal models of certain diseases of the nervous system or how to use scientific databases
  • Improving the ability to critically analyze a scientific article, from methodological interpretation to data analysis
  • Developing the ability to plan and implement scientific experiments in the field of neuroscience
  • Refining techniques for presenting scientific data to a specialized and general public
  • Improving the ability to write a complete abstract or scientific paper
  • Acquiring the necessary skills to perform medical tests in a medical laboratory

Testimonial

„The Master’s helped me reconfirm that I chose the field of neurology well, it reminded me why I chose the specialty I did, that I am on the right track, that this is what I want to do next and that it fulfills me. With all the accumulated tiredness, always running from work, to classes, being in a constant race between what to do faster, my energy and joy was sustained by the beauty of the subjects of the Master’s program, of this very special field, and of the people on the other side of the screen who taught us with such dedication and passion. In all the hustle and bustle and all the difficulties, the Masters was and is a breath of fresh air, a constant reminder of what I enjoy and bring me joy, and I feel honored for the chance to be part of this experience.”

Ruxandra Rosescu, Neurology resident, 2020-2022 generation

„For a psychology undergraduate, the program was for me a step in the scientific grounding of the empirical aspects studied in my undergraduate degree. Over the course of the semester, cognitive processes treated as such as sensations, thinking or consciousness quickly became logically understood in a neurobiological context. To the question „What did this master’s degree represent for me?” I can’t answer it other than „It represented everything”. It represented a dream from which I don’t want to wake up, it represented the one thing in my life that has never let me down, and for all its good and bad, it represented the most obvious academic step and it represented love at first sight”.

Teodor Andrei Bratu, Psychology graduate, 2020-2022 generation

„I have found wonderful people here from whom I have taken away extraordinary things: from their passion for this field, to their analytical thinking and elegance of argument when it comes to presenting scientific results. We were exposed to complex information and full of new meanings for concepts that I had only vaguely heard about in the past […] which changed my worldview both in terms of the challenges of everyday life and from a research perspective.”

Melania Bica Popi, Biology graduate, generation 2019-2021

„All the subjects that I have covered in these three semesters have revealed a new facet of neurobiology. Everything we have been presented in lectures and everything we have read has opened my mind and eyes even more, changed my way of thinking and looking at things to a certain extent, made me ask questions, aroused my curiosity and made me want to find out even more. I can now say with certainty that the field of neurobiology is a growing field, a relatively young field that still has a lot to accomplish, and I know for sure that I want to be part of the people who are working to achieve these things and who are looking for answers to the questions.”
