MASTER IN MEDICAL BIOINFORMATICS

RESPONSIBLE MASTER: Prof. dr. Speranța AVRAM

speranta.avram@bio.unibuc.ro

MISSION:

The Master in Medical Bioinformatics is a professional, multidisciplinary master’s degree that brings together information from biology and informatics to bridge these fields.

SCOP:

The Professional Master in Medical Bioinformatics aims to train specialists wishing to work in the fields of drug design, personalized medicine (human and veterinary), cheminformatics, artificial intelligence projects applied in diagnostics, biotechnologies, etc.

OBJECTIVE:
  • Provide the theoretical and practical foundations to understand and apply the basis of bioinformatics;
  • Preparing students for integration into the professional environment and insertion into the labor market;
  • Preparing students for enrolment in a doctoral training program.
SKILLS:

The professional master program prepares graduates of different faculties to be able to apply bioinformatics methods to analyze different types of biological data in order to obtain information relevant to the medical field, aiming in particular at personalized medicine. In this respect, students will be acquainted with:

  • the main methods that produce biological information, falling within the different branches of molecular biology („-omics” sciences: genomics and transcriptomics, proteomics, interactomics, pharmacogenomics),
  • information related to molecular pathologies;
  • Fundamentals of drug chemistry and therapeutic chemistry, emphasizing molecular targets or drug-modulated processes;
  • notions of toxicology;
  • Current issues in medical genetics;
  • computer systems and programming languages used in bioinformatics;
  • bioinformatics methods applied to the areas listed above.
