Explore the fascinating world of biology with passionate teachers, researchers and students at the Faculty of Biology Open Days

On May 8-9, 2025, the Faculty of Biology at the University of Bucharest opened its doors to all those interested in discovering the universe of life science. The event „Open Days at the Faculty of Biology” brought together students, professors and biology enthusiasts in a friendly and interactive setting, offering an authentic incursion into the academic and research activities of the faculty. The first day was held in a unique setting – the Botanical Garden in Bucharest where, after welcoming and registering participants, visitors were invited to participate in interactive workshops and mini-conferences dedicated to key areas of biology, such as:
  • Microbiology and Botany
  • Genetics
With the support of teachers and student volunteers from the Association of Student Biologists (ASB), participants had the opportunity to observe demonstrations, ask questions and gain a better understanding of what it is like to work in the lab and in nature. The second day was dedicated to exploring academic life in the faculty’s premises at Splaiul Independenței 91-95. The event began with a question and answer session with students and professors – an open and frank discussion about „Life in Biology”, about the challenges and rewards of the academic journey in this field. The program continued with a guided tour of the Research Platform in Systems Biology and Ecology (PCBE), where visitors had the chance to see state-of-the-art equipment and innovative projects being carried out:
  • Computational modeling of biological molecules
  • Assessing and reducing anthropogenic impacts on aquatic ecosystems
  • From DNA to living organisms: the magic of molecular biology
  • Zoom in: the universe hidden in the cells in your body
  • A foray into the world of micro-organisms
  • From the bioreactor to the real world: how microbial cultures produce microplastics and biotechnologically valuable oils
In the second part of the day, participants explored new areas of biology through exciting workshops:
  • Histology – digital microscopy workshop
  • Anatomy and physiology – anatomical art workshop
  • Ecology – discovering the complex relationships between organisms and their environment
  • Botany and microbiology – workshop
As on the first day, the event was organized with the active involvement of teachers and ASB students, who contributed not only to the organization, but also to the creation of a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere. The event brought together curious young people, passionate about the mysteries of life, eager to step into a world where the cell, the ecosystem, genetics and the human body become subjects of research and sources of inspiration. Biology is not just an academic discipline, but also a key to understanding the world we live in – a field where science meets empathy, observation meets creativity. The Faculty of Biology expresses its gratitude to all those who participated in these two days of discovery and dialog, and reaffirms its commitment to support quality science education, youth engagement and community outreach.
