MISSION:
The Master in Medical Biology is a PROFESSIONAL Master in biomedical sciences.
SCOP:
Aim of the Master program in Medical Biology is to complement education in the biomedical field, ensuring the development of those competencies and skills necessary to carry out activities in medical laboratories and translational research. This Master’s program will contribute to the advanced understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying human pathologies and the methods used to diagnose them.
OBJECTIVE:
- To provide the theoretical and practical foundations necessary for future specialists in MEDICAL BIOLOGY with the formation of competences and skills necessary for work in diagnostic and analytical laboratories with a medical profile, as well as for research activity;
- To ensure the mastery of the use of several diagnostic methods and state-of-the-art therapeutic strategies.
SKILLS:
- Thorough knowledge of the main scientific aspects of clinical laboratories, relevant to the specialization of Medical Biology
- Thorough knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology and histopathology, hematology, tumor biology, genetics, microbiology, immunology and biochemistry, with application to human pathology
- Use of specific clinical methodology and applications in laboratory investigations
- Appropriate use of specific language in communicating with different professional environments
- Knowledge of the latest advances in medical science and technology significant in understanding disease mechanisms and their appropriate use in laboratory investigations
- Ability to determine the clinical significance of laboratory investigations
- Ability to use appropriate statistical tools to evaluate clinical data; working with databases and algorithms
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical laboratory management, with importance in establishing and following rules of good practice

Who it's for:
- The program is addressed to graduates of an accredited undergraduate degree program (3 years or 4 years) in the fields of Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Human and Veterinary Medicine, Agronomy, Polytechnics, who have a specific interest in developing knowledge and skills in biomedical sciences.
- Graduates can continue their research at the Doctoral School of Biology within the Faculty of Biology.

With ALP (Authorization to Practice). Attention! ALP can only be obtained by students who have a bachelor degree in Biology, Biochemistry and Chemistry.
- Laboratory Biologist/ Biochemist in state or private clinics
- Biologist/Biochemist in food control laboratories in food industry establishments and public health directorates/institutions (external control)
- Biologist/ Biochemist in laboratories for the production and control of pharmaceuticals, medicines, cosmetics
- Biologist/Biochemist in physico-chemical and biological analysis laboratories in various factories and industries
